There are many things that could be said with that title, I may even jump to several of them. But, mainly I’m reminded of a story. I cannot remember when I read this, or what I read it in (I think it was a devotional). I do know that this is not my story, so the credit goes to whoever actually experienced it. I won’t get all the details right, either.<\/p>\n

A man was almost out of high school, and was wanting a car for college. He was very insistent to his dad about the car, but his dad was noncommittal. As graduation came closer, the man thought he might be swaying his dad. The day came, and, as his graduation present from his dad, the man received a Bible.<\/p>\n

The man was thoroughly disgusted; he didn’t want that much, and had been a good son. He threw the Bible in with his stuff as he packed for college, and didn’t touch it. It stayed packed all through college.<\/p>\n

Years later, the man’s dad passed away, and the man began looking through things, feeling sentimental. He came across the Bible, and finally opened it. As he looked at different pages, a paper fell out. It turned out to be a check for the car the man had wanted so many years ago.<\/p>\n

Had the man actually looked at his dad’s gift then, he would have gotten what he wanted. Instead, he pouted and didn’t realize what he had been given until it was too late.<\/p>\n

Oh, the times we do things like that. Get so focused on one thing that nothing else will do. If we don’t get it, we get all huffy and upset. Many times, relationships suffer when this happens. We might also miss a greater treasure when we focus on that one thing.<\/p>\n

We miss a lot when we don’t open the Bible. It will not always have a check in it, but it contains far greater treasure. It holds the story of God’s love for us. No matter what you might hear, His love is far greater than any amount of money.<\/p>\n

We all need to remember that our possessions on Earth are temporary; we should not make them our primary focus. When that happens, we lose sight of what is truly important.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
