<\/a>If you don’t recognize the stylized figure on the left, don’t feel bad. That is a representation of the Shadow, an older comic book and radio “hero.” I only know what I have read on the internet, as I am not old enough to have any personal experience hearing about the Shadow. I do know that a catchphrase of the concept was, “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows.” So what is the point of this? What, you don’t like reading little tidbits like this? OK, I do have a point around here somewhere. Whether you know about the Shadow or not, I think that he makes a good illustration of how we treat the Holy Spirit. Allow me to explain what I mean.<\/p>\n

The Shadow had the power to cloud minds. People would know something happened, but the details of the events were foggy. Have you ever had a word or thought just out of reach? The harder you try to think of it, the farther it seems to get. I think understanding the Holy Spirit can be like that. We try to make Him fit in a nice, well-defined box, but it never contains Him. Then, when we try to explain Him, we can’t find the words. Kind like I just did in that paragraph. Let me try another way.<\/p>\n

The Holy Spirit indwells Christians; He’s the Comforter that Jesus promised to send. That means He knows the goings on in us. Where the Shadow was an outside force that stopped evil, the Holy Spirit guides us in doing right. Though being forceful is not out of the question, gentleness is more often employed.<\/p>\n

We have access to the ultimate truth in Jesus. He sent the Holy Spirit to continue our education, in a manner of speaking. Though we may not be able to fully understand who He is, we know He is there.<\/p>\n
