After she is willed a yacht, Clare Childs intends to sail solo in it around the world. When a stranger comes aboard looking for something, her plans take a backseat to a much greater cause.<\/p>\n

Tracy Groot’s The Maggie Bright<\/em> is good in many ways. The characters are well developed and you can imagine that you are actually getting to know them as the story moves on. Their personalities, even their individual quirks, are integrated into the the plot very well.<\/p>\n

The story is faithful to the time period and the Dunkirk evacuation; the fiction part brings the events into focus for those of us who did not live through them. The fear and worry of the time can be related to through the dialogue and action of the story.<\/p>\n

Tracy Groot also did a great job in highlighting the good in the people and what they did. Many of the characters put aside self interests to act on behalf of others. Several of them sacrificed time and belongings in order to help people in need.<\/p>\n

Through the pain and sorrow, the characters find faith. Though they weren’t opposed to God, they realize their need for Him as time goes on. This faith supports them during the hard times.<\/p>\n

The Maggie Bright<\/em> combines several genres into an interesting book. There is action, suspense, and historical fiction, mixed with a little romance. It moves along well and can be read by adults and older youth. I really enjoyed reading it.<\/p>\n
