Expecting trouble with different cultures and better learning the language turn out to be minor compared to what she has to go through in Meg Pechenick’s Ascending<\/em>.<\/p>

Going into this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had read the plot summary, and have always enjoyed science fiction, so I was game to try it. I ended up with mixed feelings after I was finished. As a story, it was pretty good. There were several incidents between the characters that reflected problems we face in life, like personality conflicts and feeling like outsiders in new situations. This made it easy to relate to the characters. <\/p>

The plot moved at a comfortable pace, and had a mix of different genres. The descriptions allowed you to get a sense of how things looked and create images to go along with the story. My main issue with the book is the profanity. I thought it was unnecessary for the story and that feelings can be better portrayed without it.<\/p>
