A book that summarizes the Bible into 70 “scenes,” pictures that tell the story of man’s fall and God’s redemption. The story is told from creation to heaven, the events that led to and resulted from that first day.

When I first saw it, I formed the impression that it was a picture book with nice little captions that told more about the pictures. Memories from my childhood started coming back, and I wasn’t sure what to expect from there. When I got the book and thumbed through it, I realized I was wrong, but I was glad to be wrong. Yes, pictures make up half of the book, but the cute captions I thought would be there were full pages that concisely explained what the picture represented.

The author said that it was hard to choose 70 scenes to use in the book. I can see his point, but I also think that he did well in his task. He does not go into all the details, like about the exodus and the kings; he gives what I would call an overview, but one that makes it easy for all ages to see what is happening. Even young readers can use the pictures to get started and, with help, get through the supporting pages.

Even with the shortened storyline, it stays true to the Bible, and does not veer from it. In fact, he often direct quotes Bible verses instead of just paraphrasing them. After the scenes, he puts is a short summary that reviews the scenes, and there is a tract-like section. I think that makes it into something that can be given to people, regardless of where they stand on the Bible, and gives them a visual of what the Bible says.

I received this book for free in exchange for my review from BookCrash.com as part of their review program.

I just finished reading King of Glory (published by Rock International, ISBN 9780979870675).
