I just finished reading “To Be Perfectly Honest” by Phil Callaway (yes, I got it for free from Waterbrook Multnomah in exchange for a review, but no, I did not pick it because the author’s name is Phil), and in the time that I read it, I really had to compare what he did with my life.<\/p>\n
What would happen if I took a truth vow. I have massaged the truth, and told flat out lies. Some were to keep from hurting others, some were to protect myself. If they were all written down, and compared, they would all look the same to God. They are all equal lies to Him.<\/p>\n
As far as the book goes, it is a great book. Phil Callaway does a great job relating the experiment he went through, not in a boring way, and not with a look what I did feeling. He told what happened, and used humor to do it. He confessed when he stepped out of the rules of the experiment, and told what went through his mind as he went about his daily life.<\/p>\n
I agree with him that it is really good that God has given us grace, that when we fail, He doesn’t throw us away. He picks us up, cleans off the dirt, and carries us, or walks beside us, whichever we need.<\/p>\n
It is so easy to stay away from the “hard sins,” adultery, murder, the big ones. Lies come so easily to us, and it has been that way for years. Some time ago, I started to really think about the words I use, and tried to make sure I wasn’t inflating what I meant so that it could mean more. After reading this book, I’m on the right road, but there are a lot of miles to cover. The nice thing is, God will always be by my side, every step of the way.
