I was perusing some classifieds today, and saw a coin collection. I have dabbled in\u00a0numismatics\u00a0(I really thought that would have been numismatism, but the spell checker doesn’t like it). Ironically, I don’t have enough money to collect money. But that isn’t what crossed my mind when I looked at the ad.<\/p>\n
I didn’t look real hard, but the collection looked to be one that is meant for collectors, and has moderate value. The coins I have might be worth twice their face value. For the genuine collector, they are worthless. I may have one worth $5, but I don’t think it’s in good enough shape for that price.<\/p>\n
Having a “worthless” coin collection doesn’t bother me that much. I like the coins for how they look, that is why I picked them out of the bargain box at the coin shop in the first place. Their value goes beyond what the market (the world would be more accurate for later one) says they are worth.<\/p>\n
The thought struck me as I glanced at the ad that it is good God doesn’t value us based on the market value. How much is an overweight white male worth? If I could l fully leverage my skills, I might net $40-50 thousand a year. That would require a geographic move that I am not willing to make, though. Taking stock of my quirks, my worldly value plummets quickly. But I do not have to worry with that value. God places a much higher value on me. One high enough to die in my place.<\/p>\n
I started this post without realizing it would align with the Easter story. Jesus came to teach, heal and minister. But He had a bigger purpose in coming. He came to die to pay for our sins, and to rise again to give us eternal life. That is the value we hold in God’s eyes.<\/p>\n
How could we put so little value on ourselves and others, knowing that God loves us that much?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
