Tokens of Promise takes place in the time of ancient Israel, and involves Judah, the son of Jacob. It tells how Judah rescue Tamar from an abusive man, and that he decides to give her to his son as a wife. She, however, falls in love with him, and must deal with what she wants compared to what is going to happen.<\/p>\n

We follow Tamar and Judah, and the relationships along the way, and see the mistakes that are made by the people. It does a good job of staying on track and being easy to understand.<\/p>\n

The book creates a bit of back-story, even if it is fictional, for the family of Judah. It does not change any facts found in the Bible, just builds a story around them. It can help to better understand the story of Judah and his family, and how they related to one another.<\/p>\n

I do have an issue with the vivid imagery used in the book. The descriptions of the relationships between men and women were more graphic than I expected and wanted to see. I know Teresa Pollard did that on purpose, and I understand her reasons, but that is something that I, personally, must be careful with and watch myself on. My imagination can run wild too easily to read things like that without being careful.<\/p>\n
