When I was a young kid, I had chicken pox, like pretty much every other person I know did. Aside from the memory, which is vague, the only proof I have is a pockmark on my left knee. That mark is what is left of my favorite, um, chicken pock (you think that’s weird? This is just the first paragraph.). To prove it was my favorite, and that I was kind of an oddball, I nicknamed it the light bulb. Now, I have no idea why I chose that name, and I find it best not to question things like that about me.<\/p>\n
If you’re still with me, congratulations, but it may not get much better. That scar actually reminds me of several things. One, they weren’t fun. I was isolated to a certain extent, they itched something awful, and I just didn’t enjoy having them. But, they are gone now, like so many other problems I thought were bad. They were bad at the time, but God will always be there and get us through the bad.<\/p>\n
Two, though they did leave the one scar, I got off easy. Many others have been scarred worse than I. No matter how big my problem seems, it only seems that way because it is so close to me. It is just like you can take a penny, which is .75 inches wide, and block the sun, which is 870,000 miles wide. It is a matter of perspective. I shouldn’t think my problems are more important than those of others, or even more important than others period.<\/p>\n
I’m also reminded that I, like everyone else, have things from my past that “haunt” me. Chicken pox are not something you brag about, they aren’t really something to talk about with your buddies (they aren’t good enough to compare like sports injuries). But they are not the worst thing I’ve been through. I have things from my past that I still can’t bear to think about if I can keep from it. If I don’t want my past held against me, how can I hold someone else’s past against them? Not that I follow that all the time, but it is something that I need to work towards.<\/p>\n
I also think about my imperfection. I do not have flawless skin, I do not have a flawless life. Despite that, I am still loved by family, friends, and God. Best of all, God will take me just as I am, but never promised to keep me that way. Since He’s not in the business of making junk, things are looking up.<\/p>\n
Sometimes God may yell at us to get our attention, but He often uses small, seemingly insignificant, things to remind us of Him, and what He wants to do in our lives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
