New products intended to make our lives easier come out all the time. Watching TV for just a few minutes is typically enough to see a commercial for some new labor or time saving device. I don’t mind saving either of those, and I try to do my fair share (maybe more sometimes) to conserve energy. What I’ve noticed is that the conservation is real easy to carry to the extreme.<\/p>\n

I saw an article about a “fully automatic bulldozer.” The article said that it would help construction projects because it is getting hard to find qualified operators. My question is, what is the long term result of this? Wouldn’t that encourage a diminished desire to learn the proper skills?<\/p>\n

My concern is that, in saving time, we end up wasting the saved time. You can see evidence of this is many stores. Watch people try to do math without a calculator. There are many that have trouble because they have always had a calculator. That labor saving device has had a negative impact on them, even though it helped at first.<\/p>\n

Another one that hits close, electronic books, though I specifically mean Bibles. I admit that using a computer makes it easier to locate a verse, but I still prefer a physical copy. No eBook reader can replicate the feeling of the pages in your hand, plus real books don’t need batteries.<\/p>\n

Even as I type this on a computer, I have noticed a growing dependence on technology. So much so that we might be on the verge of trying to put it in place of God. That may sound far fetched, but is it really? Which causes a greater reaction, losing your phone or misplacing your Bible? Not being able to check email, or not being able to spend time with God?<\/p>\n

We need to be careful that we don’t make life so easy that we lose the abilities God gave us. Sometimes, hard is good, it makes us better.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
