What we deserve

At different ages, people go through a stage of entitlement. I see that meaning something along the lines of, “I exist, so I deserve to have whatever I want.” At times, it’s more like, “I’m awesome, give it to me.”

Though I see this more in youth and children, it does exist in all ages. Especially when we ask God for something. We’ll start telling Him how good we are, and that all that good makes us deserving of what we are asking for.

If we were to stop and take a long hard look at ourselves, pride, shallowness, all of that stuff, would we still deserve good stuff? If we saw our sin like God sees it, we’d see what we truly deserve. That would lead to us being thankful that God has mercy on us.

It’s OK to be happy for not getting what we deserve.
