I misunderstood someone one time when they said fulfilled. I will sometimes process words incorrectly, and this was one of those times. I understood in the end but, as is often the case, I got a little off track. Is there a place for foolfilled? I contend there is.
Of course, that means I have to explain my thoughts.
All of us will form plans. No matter how much we tell others that we go with the flow, we have some type of plan. It isn’t wrong to plan, but it is an extremely bad idea to leave God out of the planning. Why wouldn’t we want help from Someone who is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, and loves us more than we can imagine? What problems could possibly arise from asking Him for help? None really, just things that we think are problems. Namely, our egos will be deflated and we will travel outside of our comfort zone.
Many people, OK, nearly all people, think that those two “problems” are good reason to avoid seeking God. I admit, I don’t like not knowing what is coming. If I have to travel, I like to know the route, and have backup plans available. Since God won’t tell me everything I want to know, when I want to know it, that is a blow to my pride. But that blow is necessary.
I like to think that I am thorough in planning, but God has a different set of criteria. Listen to these two verses:
A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9
Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the LORD’s decree will prevail. Proverbs 19:21
God is going to be in control, whether I think I am an expert or not. Of course, this doesn’t mean I will always submit like I should. I still plan dumb stuff. I’m glad God is patient, but His patience will end one day. It may just be for that one thing we persist in. Hopefully, we don’t persist in sin until it is too late.
I’ll leave you with this thought: God will allow us to follow our own way at times. That is when our plans get foolfilled.
