Sunlight
After being rescued from a nation ruled by a dark spirit, 3 children join with a warrior to sneak back in. They are sent to spy and remove the spirit. Along the way, they have to learn about who they are, and that they have a purpose. Will they bring back Sunlight?
Julius Buchanan’s first book in the Acts of the United Sceptres series tells a good story, and illustrates lessons that we need to learn. Each of the older main characters has to get passed themselves in order to be useful to the Pneuma. Just as we do, they struggle with feelings of worthlessness, pride, and unforgiveness.
Written in clear and simple language, Sunlight is an easy to read book. Older children through adults would be able to understand what is going on, though I think that children would enjoy it more. Adults can even use it to help their children understand about the biblical concepts of value and humility.
Buchanan uses a few people from the Bible as historical characters in the book, changing the names and some details. Even with the minor changes, you can tell who he means, and this can open up another way to help children understand a few Bible stories.
Overall, I think this is a good book, and I’d like to see more from Julius Buchanan.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through the BookCrash.com book review program in exchange for this review.
