Where the Four Roads Merge
Four gospels, each written by a different person for a different audience. How are they similar? How can you get the whole picture of the events told in each one? It can be hard to compare each gospel. Though they agree on the ultimate message, some have more details than others, and some relate events that the others don’t. Tony Kessinger has written Where the Four Roads Merge in chronological order to help readers understand how the gospels go together and support one another.
Most Christians can share passages from the gospels, but might not understand the timing of the events. Furthermore, seeing what looks like different accounts can be confusing. Kessinger has done a good job at putting the four gospels together into one book that shows how the life and ministry of Jesus unfolded.
Starting with the birth of Jesus, and ending with His ascension, Where the Four Roads Merge shows how each gospel fits within the message. When needed, there are added details and clarifications that help us understand cultural differences and terminology that are often mistaken for contradictions. Each chapter ends with the scripture references to find the events in the Bible.
I really liked the Kessinger cautioned against using his book as a replacement for reading the Bible. He clearly tells readers that this in more of a commentary and study aid. It can be easy lose sight of the value and necessity of reading the Bible for yourself.
I would recommend this book to those who are wanting to learn more about the gospels and how they share Jesus’ life and mission.
I received a free copy of this book from the author, but that had no effect on my opinion.
