End of my rope

That’s an all too familiar phrase. Deadlines start coming, problems arise, money gets tights, and there you are, barely hanging on to your sanity. Or, in my case, what I refer to as sanity. At that point, you have reached the end of your rope.

I don’t really know how long that rope is. I think someone replaced mine with an elastic band. It seems like it stretches more than it ought to. Whether or not you are at the end, you can probably identify with what I mean. Maybe not the elastic part.

I heard someone say, and I cannot remember who it was, that when you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on. That sounds like such good advice. But what if it isn’t good advice. I’m not saying that it isn’t good, but that it may not be, at times.

Think about, is staying in the wrong lane of traffic a good idea? Nope. If you aren’t in the correct lane, you are going to find a way to get there. What if that isn’t the right rope? What if that “malicious” voice telling you to let go it actually the still, small voice of God, telling you to let go so that He may catch you?

I’m reminded of a joke about that. A guy was walking along a canyon when he slipped. He tumbled over the side, but grabbed onto a tree that was growing there. He couldn’t pull himself back up, so he began to yell, “God, are You up there?”

A voice boomed, “Let go. I will catch you.

The man paused, then yelled, “Is there anyone else up there?”

Maybe, just maybe, that rope is something God wants us to let go of anyway. That is something you will have to talk with God about, though.
