You Can’t See Me
I was driving home on the interstate recently and had to pass through a construction zone. They weren’t actively working that day, but the signs reducing the speed from 70 to 55 were still up. And I seem to have been the only one that was running 55. That got me to thinking (the fact that it was half way through a 3 hour drive probably added to it) how people will drive as fast as they care, until the threat of being caught arises.
If there had been any sign of police, I’m sure cars would have slowed down. Driving the speed limit seems to inconvenience people, though I don’t see it that way.
I first thought how people speed unless a police car or, for some, radar is detected. They only slow down until the “danger” has passed. Then, I remembered we try to do the same with God. He will allow things that slow us down, and we just push harder on the accelerator. If we realize that God is telling us something, we slow down, but only long enough to “convince” God that we are listening. After that, down goes the pedal.
If I’d just learn to walk with God the way I drive.
