Lead, er

I think I surprised some of the college staff when I went. Come to think of it, probably some of my elementary and high school teachers, too. One even wrote that I needed to show more leadership on a progress report.

I have never been leader material. I’ve tried in the past, but have only succeeded (if you want to call it that) in leading groups of 2 or 3. I might be able to manage 5 at a time. You know what? I am fine with that. I wonder why the teachers weren’t. Why do we push people so hard to be in leadership, and then quote sayings about having too many leaders? Too many cooks spoil the soup. (You can use whatever dish you like in that one. I think it started as pottage.) Too many chiefs, not enough indians. In others words, everyone wants to be in charge.

I am more of the mindset of tell me what needs to be done, tell me anything special about how it should be done, and let me work. Check on me if you like, but let me do what you gave me to do. If I need something, I will find you.

Maybe I am looking at this the wrong way, but if no one is going to listen and do, what is the point of having a leader in the first place?
