Floating Foundation
I have heard it said several times, some first hand, that the New Testament is all we need to be reading. Jesus has come, and will come again. That last sentence is true, but not the one before it.
The Old Testament was important, and still is. In fact, it is quoted hundreds of times in the New Testament. In fact, Jesus Himself said He came to fulfill the law (Old Testament), not do away with it.
To me, it would seem that trying to live with just the New Testament is like trying to build a house with no foundation. Oh sure, it would look cool, but the first storm that came along would either carry it away, or heavily damage it.
Yes, the New Testament contains what we call the gospel, and it is vitally important. But the Old Testament contains the foundation. We have to know what caused the problem of sin before we can accept the solution.
