The Goodness of God
No one really looks forward to suffering, it is painful and unwanted. However, it is possible to look forward to what comes from the suffering, and what follows it. That is what Randy Alcorn wants to tell you in The Goodness of God.
Suffering is inevitable in this fallen world, and everyone will face it at some time. We may feel like we are getting more than our fair share at times, but there is a reason.
Randy Alcorn first discusses the predominant viewpoints on who or what causes evil and suffering, and details why more cannot stand up under scrutiny. He then goes on to tell why suffering, though painful, is not a random event with no purpose.
He explains that God only wants what is best for us, and that will include suffering. Through the suffering, we are refined and prepared for something yet to come, either here on Earth, or later in Heaven. He does not pull any punches on some of the modern thoughts that suffering will disappear if you have enough faith.
Well written and easy to comprehend, The Goodness of God is a good book for Christians and unbelievers alike. It shows that God does love us, and has a purpose in allowing suffering. The book ends with an invitation to trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
I received this book from Waterbrook Multnoamh in exchange for this review.
