Failure: The Back Door to Success

Failure-The Back Door to Success.inddWe generally fall into one of two groups, we think we are successful, or we think we have failed. Whether we are correct or not depends on what standard we are using. Even if we don’t succeed by the world’s standard, that doesn’t mean that we are failures in God’s eyes. Even if we have messed up, God can still use us, and even our situation, to grow us.

In Failure: The Back Door to Success, Erwin W. Lutzer looks at what success means in God’s eyes. It does not mean being rich, famous, popular, or anything like what the world tells you to chase after. God is not interested in how well we meet worldly standards as He measures us differently. God seeks worshipers, people who want a constant fellowship with Him.

Lutzer explains how failure is not the end, we cannot label ourselves as failures and expect God to be satisfied with that. He can and will lift us up and use us. I found a lot in this book, more than I would readily want to admit to, that applied to me. Trying to hide in the background for fear of looking bad when I messed up is something that I struggle with. Attitudes like that are formed when we are not depending on God.

Failure: The Back Door to Success is easy to read, the wording is clear and understandable. I recommend taking your time and not trying to read through it as quickly as possible. No matter how well you think you are doing as a Christian, it would be beneficial to consider what the book says.

I received a free copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for this honest review.
