Yes Dear, There Really Is A Devil

Yes-DearExplaining spiritual warfare to children can be difficult, it is a concept that might be too deep for many kids to understand. Though they will encounter temptation, how do you explain what it is and how to resist it? Chris Rader and Johnnie Coley help in Yes Dear, There Really Is A Devil.

This is the first book that I have seen directed at kids that explains about spiritual warfare. Though others have told children that they need to be respectful to others and to do what is right, this one goes back to the cause, and how this still affects us.

The book is written in poem form, and each verse has scripture that backs it up. The verses are short and easy to read, which would help kids understand what they say and allow them to read the book on their own once they are able to. Each page has colorful illustrations that go along with the words and let kids see what the words mean.

I do have a slight concern, based on the fact that I tend to be a bit particular about being precise. In some of the pictures, the characters are shown with the shield of faith slung on their back. This is not the best way to show that. As one sermon I heard put it, the armor of God holds no protection for running away from the battle. I realize that kids are the main audience on this book, and this detail won’t be all that important to them. I also admit that it looks good in the pictures, I just wanted to put it out there.

I received a free copy of Yes Dear, There Really Is A Devil from the publisher as part of the BookCrash program.
