The Swindler’s Treasure

What do you do when man’s laws and God’s laws conflict? Where do you turn when what you hold dear is threatened? Libby, Caleb, and Jordan must face these questions and decide their answers in The Swindler’s Treasure.

After her pa has his boat payment and workers’ salary stolen, Libby and Caleb plan to get it back. They are joined by Jordan, who has lost money to the same swindler, money that was going to help slaves. Along the way, they face danger and challenges, but they also make new friends. Among these is Peter, a boy with a slightly mysterious past. The children must work together, and learn to completely trust God for help.

Each child faces a different hardship, and must decide how they will handle it. Lois Walfrid Johnson keeps the story entertaining, but also keeps an educational element in it. Aimed at youth, it can help them see that God is there, even through the problems we face. Additionally, Johnson has historical figures in the story that children can learn about.

Doing what is right, even when it is tough or inconvenient is stressed many times. That is something that all people face, and The Swindler’s Treasure does a good job of illustrating that concept.

I received a free copy of the book from Moody Publishers in exchange for this review.
