Feast for Thieves

Rowdy Slater has had it rough. Coming back from the war and not being able to fit back in, then getting caught up in a crime. He realizes he needs to change and is given a choice: pastor a church for a year, or go to jail. Thinking the church would be easy, he instead finds out that it comes with its own challenges. Marcus Brotherton’s Feast for Thieves tells how both Slater and the town change over the year.

Rowdy finds out that he needs to accept Jesus, and with that, a different lifestyle. Though things are fine at first, he starts to see that all people have problems, and he needs to help them as he can. Being a pastor goes from keeping him out of jail to being his calling.

Rowdy faces many challenges, from irate church members to his past resurfacing, and he learns how to deal with his problems in a Christ-like manner. Though he doesn’t have it all together, he doesn’t quit. He also decides to stop running from and hiding his mistakes, and accept the consequences.

Feast for Thieves is well written and down to earth. Though there is plenty of action, the story in easy to follow. Brotherton has done a great job of writing a book that holds your attention, yet has an underlying message, one of salvation and following Christ.

I received this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review.
