Smorgasbord

If you are not familiar with the term used in the title, it is a buffet where you can find all kinds of different food. In case, it would be food for thought. I am just going to write about random topics and may switch back and forth.

If someone were to ask you, “Do you believe in God,” what would you say? Even hard core non-churchgoers would probably says that God exists. That’s a good start, but we can’t stop there. You see, I believe that Darwin existed, but I don’t put any stock into evolution. Where does that leave me? Believing in God must be coupled with believing God in order for it to do any good in our lives. If we don’t fear the consequences on sin, what reason do we have to stop sinning?

There are people that expect you to be ready at a moment’s notice to give them attention. I have heard from several repair shops that have customers that wait until the last minute before getting work done, then fuss because it won’t be finished in a matter of hours. (I am writing this hoping I have never done anything like that, but knowing that I could have.) A saying that I have heard about that is, “A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.” I don’t advocate being mean to someone who does this, but there are times that you have to make them wait. You cannot help two people with different needs at the same time. Help one, then help the other.

Have you ever noticed how many double standards we hold onto? It might be best summed up with “Do as I say, not as I do.” In other words, we want to have free reign to do what we want, but expect others to do what we tell them. I have done this, and, though I try to convince myself otherwise, I still do it. It is almost always done out of stubborn pride. We don’t want someone telling us what to do. Too often, we include God in that.

I’d say that will do for now. Though my mind is far from blank, I have a bit more room than I did. I may open up the buffet again if I need to make room.
