A Cast of Stones
A guy that is considered to be worthless to those in the community is given a task that is too important to mess up. In completing the task, the guy gets involved in something that is bigger than he even knew existed. He learns there is more outside of the world he knew, and there is more about himself than he knew.
A Cast of Stones, by Patrick W. Carr tells of Errol, the town drunk. He is given letters to deliver to a hermit priest. After he is attacked on the way, he gets involved a widespread plot to unleash evil forces on the world. He is discovered to have an ability that is instrumental to keeping the evil at bay, and is brought along on a journey to the capital city.
Along the way, his group is under constant threat of attack, and he is eventually separated from them. He must survive on his own, but learns that he can be more than a drunk, that he actually doesn’t have to be a drunk. He ends up doing a lot more than anyone, including himself, thought he could do.
A Cast of Stones is full of twists and turns, and action. I had a hard time putting it down, and was able to use my imagination to picture what was happening in the story. It is also easy to see the Christian undertones in the story, and it becomes a good way to start a discussion with others about Christ.
I really like the book, but I have one issue with it. I have to wait for the next book in the series to see how it turns out.
I received this book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for this review.
