The Pilgrim’s Progress for the 21st Century
The Pilgrim’s Progress is a classic work that shows an example of living as a Christian and facing the challenges of the world. David Harakal brings the story into modern times with The Pilgrim’s Progress for the 21st Century. The overall themes are still intact, as are the challenges that the Pilgrim family face on the road to Celestial City. What’s different is that things have been updated for the world we live in today. Things like cars and GPS are available. This makes the story more accessible to people that are not familiar with the working of the original.
The story is easy to read and still presents the truth of accepting God’s gift of mercy and grace. The struggles the Pilgrim family face, both from within and without, are relatable. This book would be good for older children and adults to read. The only thing that I had a problem with is that some of the conversation seemed forced. In an effort to include the paraphrased Bible verses, it seemed that the natural flow of the story was broken. Other than that, it is a good book to read.
I received a free copy of the ebook from the author via Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review.
