The More of Less

TheLessOfMoreStuff. A simple word, but we are surrounded by what it describes. A quick look around the average home shows that we easily build up collections of stuff. What if our lives would be better with less? Can something that goes against what society screams for work? Joshua Becker shares his experience with minimalism and what he discovered about it in The More of Less.

Sharing both his journey and those of people he has met, Becker tells what minimalism is and isn’t. It isn’t the same for every person. What worked for him may or may not do you any good. Instead of hard and fast rules, he provides guidelines for switching to a minimalist lifestyle: Starting off with easy things, like junk drawers, before moving on to entire rooms, experimenting by storing possessions for a period of time to see if you really need them or not, and other steps that are pretty simple to try.

Becker is not saying to get rid of everything, just to remove what is unnecessary or burdensome. Do you actually need 30 pairs of shoes or the latest and greatest smart phone? By keeping only what is needed, you can free up space, time, and money.

I already had an interest in paring down what I had, and this book helped with some practical ways to get started with that.

I received a free copy of The More of Less from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review.
