Of God and Men

OfGodAndMenAll too often, Christians spend their lives going through the motions. They have the wrong idea of how to be Christ-like, and they miss out on really knowing God. A.W. Tozer wrote about this sort of “dead” Christianity and how to get back to how the early church lived in Of God and Men.

Christians, like most other people, don’t like to be wrong, and calling their understanding of the Christian life into question is a good way to cause trouble. However, we all need examine our lives and make sure that we have our faith in God and not traditions.

Tozer points out problems that exist within the church body. Though this book was first published over 50 years ago, there are still several of these problems hanging around today. Pointing out a problem can only go so far, and Tozer compares the falsehoods with the truth found in the New Testament so that we can find out how to address the problems.

There is a lot of information in this book and it can be a little difficult to digest all at once. I don’t recommend trying to read it all the way through in one sitting because it is too easy to miss something. I had to read a few chapters and then take some time to think about what was said. I think that Of God and Men can benefit those who want to make sure they aren’t living a false version of Christianity.

I received a free copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for this review.
