Gift of a Servant

We frequently hear how Christmas has become too commercial; how the true meaning has been lost. Most often, this comes from those of us that have had all the shopping we can handle.

In Gift of a Servant, Tamara Amos tells a story of a man that has had enough of the commercial side of Christmas. He has decided that Santa must answer for it, and stays up to wait for him on Christmas Eve. He confronts Santa about how people have left the original and true meaning of Christmas behind in favor of spending money on presents.

Santa shows the man that the gifts aren’t supposed to be the focus, but a reminder of the ultimate gift we’ve been given in Christ. Through what he learns from Santa, the man realizes that we are the ones who have promoted the commercialization of Christmas, and are the ones that will have to stop it.

Well written and to the point, Gift of a Servant hits on something that all of us can relate to, and drives home the message of what Christmas is. In my opinion, it could be used as a tradition for the Christmas season.
