Piecing Together Forgiveness

PiecingTogetherForgiving someone is one of the hardest situations Christians can face in daily life. It is simple on the surface, but it much more complex as you get into it. Using the book of Philemon, Kristi Burchfiel goes through the different aspects of forgiveness in Piecing Together Forgiveness.

Paul wrote to Philemon to seek his forgiveness on behalf of Onesimus, who had wronged Philemon somehow. Using this as the foundation, Piecing Together Forgiveness looks at what someone has to deal with when faced with forgiving someone. Each person mentioned in Philemon has a fictional account to illustrate what their feeling of the situation could have been. This sets up the chapter to address what we will go through today when we are asked to forgive someone, and when we are the ones seeking forgiveness.

Even with forgiveness being something that is hard to think about, Kristi Burchfiel has done an excellent job at providing a study that is clear and easy to read. She points out that forgiveness is about restoring relationships, between the people involved in the problem, but also between the people and God. Our relationship with God suffers when we hold onto the anger and bitterness of being wronged. Each chapter is written in simple terms that are easy to understand.
