broken love
Why do we, as people, choose to look to other things to be filled on the inside? The only one who can fill that void is God alone, through His Son, Jesus. Yet in all our earthly wisdom we choose material things to try and fill our hearts, only to find that, in the end, there’s really just a bigger void.
Broken Love. We say, “I have loved, but lost in love, so who cares any more?” Well, God the Father cares because His Love is greater than any one realizes. You see, He sent His only begotten Son to die for you and me. He was happy to crush Him so that we may live.
You see, satan, in His wisdom, thought that he had won the day we crucified Jesus of Nazareth, the one who is the Christ. Was he ever so wrong? Our heavenly Father took the very evil thing satan intended by killing His Son on Calvary and did something unfathomable. Though satan thought he had defeated God, God instead saved a dead and decaying race, us. Seems kind of strange doesn’t it?
You see, in His great wisdom, God knew before the beginning of time that man would not be able to hold onto what was given to Him in love. He knew He would one day send His Son to die for us and He rejoiced in Christ. God was well pleased in Jesus. Yet we take it for granted and push aside His love. Is it broken then? Not a chance.
Nothing can separate us from the Love we have in Christ Jesus. Nothing! It is our brokenness that hurts us so deeply. To think that, when our heavenly Father looks down and sees us, His beautiful creation, defying Him, turning from Him, and seeking our lustful ways, it breaks His heart. But it’s not God’s Love that is broken, but our love for God that is broken. In our sinfulness, we turn our face from God and say we want the worldly things more than we want Him. Then, we wonder why we have nothing. Why our void has not been filled. It’s because no material possession or person can fill a void that Christ alone is supposed to fill.
He alone makes us whole again by His love. That love is why He sends the Holy Spirit to us; to fill that void that was ingrained in our being when our forefather and mother failed in the Garden. That longing to be close to our Creator has been burning deep within our hearts ever since.
Now we have the One who created us wanting to dwell within us and we turn a deaf ear to His message. Our desires are not His desires. We turn to all kinds of vices and the war within our minds is great. The ancient serpent knows that we are lazy humans who will choose the easy path over the difficult one just because it wont cost us anything. But, it might fill our void. At least, that’s the way we think.
I pose this question for the reader. Do you get teary-eyed, or maybe even excited, when you hear that one day, Christ will return to take us home? That longing to be with our Creator often is brought to the forefront when we confront any hidden desire, want, or longing. For me, the very thought that I will leave this earth behind me one day, that everything that has caused me sorrow and pain will be gone, that I will be in the presence of my Holy, Holy, Holy God, my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ… well it is a longing that I cannot put into words. I will never experience that joy on this earth. The joy that I will have on the day I am gathered into the heavens with Jesus.
