Dear Luke

I am one of those people that wonder about back stories of songs, movies, and things like that. What happened that wasn’t told? That is why I had high hopes for Dear Luke, We Need to Talk. Darth by John Moe. I knew that the content was fictional, but I like a good laugh.

ldi3nMsaMoe did a creative job in writing what “might have” happened in stories like Darth Vader, the shark from Jaws, Dorothy after she got back to Kansas. He wrote the parts of the story that we weren’t told, and what the characters could have been thinking leading up to the events, or following the events. I like the idea of that.

However, I didn’t really find the book that funny. I got a few chuckles from it, but not the laughter I was hoping for. Now, I know that humor is subjective, so others may find the book really funny.

One thing that really kept the book from being enjoyable was the language. Cuss words and lewd imagery were both applied generously to the different entries. Nearly all of them had one or both kinds of language. I know that this is fairly common in a lot of pop culture, but not all of pop culture, and I don’t like it.

If that stuff was removed, I think it would be a decent book to thumb through now and then.

I received this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review.
