Did you see that?

windowChris Rice has a song called “Smell the Color 9.” The premise is that seeking God’s will can be like trying to smell the color nine; nine isn’t a color, and you can’t smell colors anyway (don’t make any wise cracks about scented markers, they don’t count). I can go along with that line of thought.

I have heard many people talk about hearing from God, and even audibly hearing God’s voice. I have no reason to say that they are lying, but I can’t say I have the same experiences. It seems that I, too, am chasing after something that cannot be done.

I know that isn’t true. I know that God will speak, not necessarily how we expect it, but He will speak somehow. Even with that in mind, I often feel like I’m looking for a sign by staring at a picture of a window. Waiting for something new to appear in something that doesn’t change.

(If you’re still with me, I applaud your courage or question your sanity. I’ll let you pick.)

You can hear all kinds of stories of people hearing a “voice,” one that doesn’t come through human ears. The prophets in the Old Testament experienced that. People nowadays do, too. There are times I think my antenna is broken and I’m not getting any reception.
