By Grace Alone

Can you obey the rules enough to please God? Is salvation really something that you don’t have to work for? Derek Prince talks about this in By Grace Alone: Finding Freedom ans Purging Legalism From Your Life.

There are many people, Christians and non-Christians alike, that continue trying to earn salvation. Either by doing as many goods works as possible, or by following strict rules that they think will put them on God’s good side. Prince tells why this line of thinking doesn’t work, that salvation comes only by grace through faith in Christ.

He writes about the two ways of righteousness; by following the Law and by grace. The Law reveals sin, but we are not capable of following it flawlessly. We can only be saved by God’s grace.

Going into more detail about the Law, Prince tells why it was written, and that it shows us our sin, and that we cannot remove our sin on our own. He tells that God alone, can remove our sin, and chooses to do so because of His love, not because we are “good.”

Though we are still to obey laws, we are not to look to them as our way of salvation. Jesus is how we are saved. God gives grace (or favor) to those who hold faith in Jesus. Even though we cannot earn salvation, it is still available to us, we just have to trust.

Well written and simple to understand, By Grace Alone is a good book for those who need extra help on understanding why they can’t be saved by works. It can be hard to just sit down and read, but I think that is because I stop and think about what was written.

I received this book from Chosen Books in exchange for an honest review.
