Harolding the Seasons

Many times, you can hear someone say, “This is just a season I’m going through.” I generally hear it when someone is facing a tough time. It seems to be used mainly to explain why they are having trouble when they really don’t know.

Disclaimer: I consider “this is a season” to be a Christian buzzword, like a hedge of protection or tearing down walls. I am not saying they are false, just that I think they are used too often to make the person saying them sound more authentic. Like telling someone in the business world that you’re proactive.

I understand what the meaning is, the trouble isn’t going to last forever. It may stay for a while, but it will pass, just like the seasons of the year. But, even though I was going to just write my thoughts about not really caring for the term, I realized there is a deeper, and slightly different, meaning.

When applied to objects, and people for that matter, something that is seasoned is ready for use. Seasoned firewood burns the best, a cast iron skillet must be seasoned, a seasoned worker knows what to do, a… I think you understand my point. Those things have been put to the test, and even put through the fire. They came out better than when they went in.

So, God is going to season us. It may be a time of drying out from something that we need to depend on less, or it could be that we face tough times, but we will come out better if we fully depend on Him.

Oh, as for the Harolding instead of Heralding, that’s just because I could. Plus, you had to read the whole thing to see if it played into the idea or not.
