We have several chickens, so when I saw this book, I was interested in seeing what it said. My main reason for reading it was that I wanted to learn more about chicken behavior to take better care of them, being able to train them was a bonus. Up till now, all the training I had thought about for our chickens was to make sure they stayed in the safety of the run. I figured in learning to train a chicken, I could better understand their behavior.
The book provides background on chicken behavior, social traits, and how to use a clicker and treats for training. Each step in the training process is outlined and then explained with the ways, places, and things you’ll need. The reasons for both the steps and details are given, so you have a firm understanding of what to do.
The instructions are practical and easy to follow. After reading the book, you’ll have a working knowledge of what to expect and how to handle training your chicken. I don’t know if I’ll be able to train all of our chickens, but I’m willing to try training at least some of them.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
