Better (or) Off

I read about a car that is factory produced, has over 700 horsepower, will go from zero to 60 in about 3.5 seconds, and still averages 23 miles per gallon on the highway. I have seen cars from the 60s and 70s that could get 40-50 miles per gallon. Why does it take a hybrid to get that fuel economy now? If you can pack that much power into a car, and get over 2o mpg, why can you not get regular cars that sip gas? I don’t really care who is to blame for it, I just think it needs to be rectified.

However, that is just a lead in to something else. Look at the early church (you can find it in Acts) and how they lived. They shared what they had, they took care of others. All of this was done without technology. They had to go (or someone had to go) to their friend’s house to talk to them. No phones, no computers, yet they made it work. In my life, I am never far away from a phone or computer. How often do I think to check on somebody? I would like to tell you that I do it everyday, but I’ve made a commitment to not lie. I don’t think you can call looking at their latest social media post checking on them, either.

Where did we go wrong? With all this being connected, why are we so far apart? Granted, I am the pot calling the kettle black on this, as many people would call me anti-social. How is it I can talk to practically anyone in the world, but I don’t actually talk to my neighbors (not just the next door people, the ones mentioned in the parable of the Good Samaritan)?

In our quest to be better off, I think we’re just off.
