Understanding World Religions

Living in the world as a Christian means that you will meet people who are not Christians. They will have a different set of beliefs than you do. Knowing more about them ahead of time can help you share your faith with them. In Understanding World Religions in 15 Minutes a Day, Garry R. Morgan briefly outlines the history and beliefs of many of the largely followed religions.

To help understand each one, he begins the book by outlining what a religion is, and what criteria he uses to define one. To paraphrase, a religion is a set of beliefs that answer important life questions and influence how you live.

After that, he gives brief overviews of the larger religions in the world, including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and lesser known ones such as Shintoism. He explains how they differ from each other, and how different branches within each one differ from other branches.

Though this is not exhaustive (he admits that each overview is brief and there is much left unsaid), it gives a good background so that you can understand more about each one. From a Christian standpoint, it allows you to understand what other people believe so that you can better explain your beliefs to them.

I received this book from Bethany House in exchange for reading it and giving my fair review.
