The Shattered Vigil

shatteredvigilEven after defeating the evil that rose up during Bas-Solas, Willet and the rest of the Vigil don’t have time to rest. The underlying cause of the Darkwood’s influence is still there, and now they are being hunted. Patrick W. Carr continues the Darkwater series in The Shattered Vigil.

Anytime I have an opportunity to read one of Carr’s books, I take advantage of it. His writing is in-depth, but flows easily and holds your attention. The Shattered Vigil is no different. Each of the characters are well defined and the descriptions make it seem like you are able to watch as the action unfolds.

Besides the great writing, this book lets readers take stock in their belief in God. The characters have to face the difference between knowing about and trusting God. Being able to look at this from a fictional angle can circumvent the walls that our logic sometimes puts up.

One of the aspects that I think makes a book great is that when I reach the last page, I am not ready for the story to end. The Shattered Vigil did that, complete with a twist that I did not expect. Carr is able to write books that teach and entertain, and then keep you wanting to come back for more.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
