Come and get it

Sunday is plenty of Bible for me. I go there for two hours, and get enough God for the week. I don’t go by that theory, but many do. Food is used to illustrate time in the Bible, and that’s where I’m headed here.

You can’t gorge once a week, and expect to grow. You will get sick, and then want to stop eating. The same is true if you feast on God’s word only once a week, or even twice a week. There needs to be at least a nibble each day. Just like your stomach shrinks if you don’t eat, your spirit will shrink without regular feeding.

At the same time, there is another eating condition that affects Christians. It has several different names, including salad bar Christians or buffet Christianity. The basic belief in this line of thought is to take just what you want from the Bible, or any other religion, in order to get the right fit. This is used to weed out the parts of the Bible that people don’t like. This won’t work either. You cannot add asterisks to God’s word in order to make it more appealing.

There are parts that aren’t easy to swallow, love your enemies goes against what much of the world teaches. The same can be said of putting others ahead of yourself. Just because we don’t like something God said in His word does not mean we can cut it out and ignore it.

If you want to be a healthy Christian, you need to eat right, every day.
