Marriage and things, by the book
If you know me, that title brings up questions, because I am not married, nor have I been married before. To ease your mind, I am not going to give you instructions on the topic, this is a book review. The book I read is Love, Sex, and Happily Ever After by Craig Groeschel. I was timid, to put it one way, about reading it with a title like that, but I’m glad I did.
Craig Groeschel starts off by telling readers that this is not a magic bullet-solve all the problems book. He does not give you a step by step process, guaranteed to get you a spouse in 3o days or your money back. Though, he does give you steps to follow, and does make some promises, but they’re not outlandish by any means.
He does tell you that the first step in looking for your “one,” should be changed to looking for “The One,” Jesus. Without a relationship with Him, a relationship with a spouse would be difficult at best.
One theme that was woven throughout is to make sure you do get the cart before the horse. There is an order that needs to be followed; Christ is first, then your spouse, then other things that I won’t write here because I had to read the book to find out and it is only fair that you do the same.
It’s a good book, and I’d recommend it to others. If you happen to be uneasy like I am, he doesn’t spend much time on the middle subject. He mentions it, but focus on the love and happily ever after part.
I did receive this book for free from Waterbrook Multnomah because I did this review. Actually, that is doubly good because I don’t think I could have worked up the courage to buy the book in a bookstore without imagining people giving me funny looks. But, that’s another story…
